![]() | The advent of digital printing, scanning (of older negatives and positives) and the improvements in digital camera output, have made it possible for me to make I think more highly-refined prints than ever before, and to offer them at accessible prices (a pricing principal with me, though, is that a photograph should not cost less than a simple frame to put it in). I offer most prints in three sizes: around 5x7" in an 8x10" mat; around 7.5x10" in an 11x14" mat; and unmatted ca.10.5x13". I am currently printing on Moab's Lasal Photo Matte 235 paper, and using Epson's Double-Sided Matte Paper for the cards. Print life on these papers with the Epson K3 pigment inks is among the best available. I mount the prints to Exeter Board from Light Impressions using only photo corners, and hinge the Exeter Board window mat to the back with Tyvek tape. These practices are an effort to keep the print in a chemically safe environment, to make it removable from the mount board if necessary without causing damage, and to prevent the glass in the frame from coming into contact with the surface of the print. Although the gallery is starting small, I hope to be able to add to it often, both new pictures and my favorites from many years of work. I hope that will mean that you will be able to find pictures you would like to to be a part of your life.
CARE - for the best longevity, present these prints framed behind glass, and away from areas with sustained intense sunlight - well, treat them as you would a fine watercolor. An alternative would be an archival album or browsing box on the coffee table.
I don't have the science of Wilhelm Imaging Research, but I have in the past noted that cards I have given my Dad and that he likes to just prop on the mantle, have faded significantly when printed on random cardstock, but held up beautifully on the Epson Double-Sided Matte paper. So, I will do the best I can as far as materials, but you need to continue the process by using care in your presentation/storage.
