LATE-DAY DUNES, GULL - OUTER BANKS was made late in the afternoon in the general area of Pea Island on North Carolina's Outer Banks. I had been watching the way the shape of the clouds seemed to match the shape of the grassy dunes as we drove south along the highway. When I had the opportunity to make an exposure, the gull was in almost the ideal spot. In working up the print I moved the gull just a bit and made it a little larger - well, painters can do that stuff at will, so why not?
